GLS Croatia, GLS Czech Republic, GLS Hungary, GLS Slovakia and GLS Romania send GLS parcels through MyGLS, the GLS platform in those five countries: parcels within the country and across Europe, next-day express, delivery to GLS ParcelShops and parcel lockers, and pickups with Pick&Ship and Pick&Return. Each country is its own card on All carriers, and all five use the same form. GLS in Denmark is a different card with its own form: see Connect GLS Denmark. The fields that every carrier shares are on Carrier credentials.
You do not pick a sender address on this form. Add your addresses under the organization menu → Manage → Addresses. You choose the sender address on each shipment or in a shipping rule. Connect the card for the country your GLS contract is with. Every product except GLS Pick&Ship and GLS Pick&Return ships from an address in that country: GLS Croatia from Croatia, GLS Romania from Romania, and so on.

Before you start

  • A contract with GLS in the country you connect.
  • Your MyGLS login: the email address and password you sign in to MyGLS with. If you have no MyGLS login yet, ask your GLS contact for one.
  • Your GLS client number. Your GLS sales contact gives it to you with the contract. One MyGLS login can hold several client numbers: enter the one you ship under.
  • For Test mode, a MyGLS test account from GLS’s IT team: a test username, password and client number. Ask your GLS contact to arrange it. Your live login does not work in the test system.
You can connect the same GLS country more than once, for example once per client number. Give each connection its own Carrier name. Learn more on each card opens that country’s GLS website, for example gls-group.eu/HR.

Connect your GLS country

1

Open All carriers

In the sidebar, click Carriers, then open the All carriers tab.
2

Find your GLS country

Find the card for the country your GLS contract is with: GLS Croatia, GLS Czech Republic, GLS Hungary, GLS Slovakia or GLS Romania. Click Connect on it.
3

Fill in the form

The Connect carrier window opens. Enter a Carrier name, your Username (email), Password and Client number. Test mode is the only field under Optional fields.
4

Connect the carrier

Click Connect. You see “Carrier connected”, and the carrier appears on the My carriers tab.

Fields on the form

The fields are the same on all five cards. Connect does nothing until Carrier name, Username (email), Password and Client number have a value. Zippendo saves your details without checking them with GLS. A mistake shows up the first time you send a shipment. A MyGLS login works only in its own country: a GLS Hungary login is refused on the GLS Croatia card. Leave Test mode off for real orders, and make sure your credentials match both the country and the test or live system. See Test mode.

Keep the password up to date

MyGLS locks a login for about 5 minutes after 5 failed sign-ins in a row. While it is locked, GLS refuses even the correct password, so sending and tracking with that login stop until the lock ends. Every refused attempt counts, including a login entered on another country’s card.
  • When you change your MyGLS password, update Password on Edit carrier straight away.
  • When GLS refuses a password, enter the correct one on Edit carrier and click Save. Zippendo uses it at once. Until you save, Zippendo waits about an hour before it tries the refused password again.
  • When GLS has locked the login, the shipment shows the time the lock ends, in Central European time. There is nothing to change: wait until then and send again.

After you connect

The carrier appears on My carriers with a Connected badge. You choose the product on each shipment or in a shipping rule, not on this form. See Carrier products and services. All five countries list the same products: Destinations outside the EU, for example Switzerland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Serbia or Bosnia and Herzegovina, are not offered. Neither are the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla, or Åland, as a destination or as the pickup address of GLS Pick&Ship and GLS Pick&Return. They need customs data, which a MyGLS shipment cannot carry. Each product shows its weight range on the shipment. A parcel to another country takes at most 31.5 kg (40 kg for GLS ExpressParcel between Hungary and Slovakia), and a parcel to a ParcelShop or parcel locker in another country at most 20 kg. Within the country the limit is 40 kg or less, depending on the country and product: for example 31.5 kg for every product in Romania and most products in Slovakia, and 20 kg for any ParcelShop or parcel locker delivery from the Czech Republic. Zippendo stops a heavier parcel before the shipment reaches GLS. A service the product does not offer on that route, for example cash on delivery to Germany, is also stopped before the shipment reaches GLS. A product or service your GLS contract does not include is refused by GLS when you send. Either way, the shipment shows the reason.

Labels

GLS prints a square 85 × 85 mm label, one per parcel. It prints on 100 × 100 mm or larger label stock. Choose Label format on the product: PDF, or ZPL (thermal) for a Zebra label printer. The shipment’s Documents tab lists the label size as 100x100. A shipment with several parcels is one GLS shipment: every parcel gets its own label and parcel number, in parcel order. A shipment takes at most 99 parcels. Give every parcel a weight. Zippendo does not send a parcel without one. GLS issues each label once, when you send, and cannot send it again later. Zippendo keeps the label on the shipment’s Documents tab, so you can open and print it again from there. Labels from the test system carry a TEST mark. They are not valid for shipping.

ParcelShops and parcel lockers (service points)

GLS ParcelShop Delivery and GLS Parcel Locker Delivery deliver to a service point. Choose it in the Service point section of the shipment before you send. The search lists up to 20 GLS points nearest the receiver’s postal code, in the receiver’s country: ParcelShops for GLS ParcelShop Delivery, and parcel lockers for GLS Parcel Locker Delivery. Points that do not accept deliveries, points GLS marks as out of order, and points closed for a holiday today are not listed. A parcel locker search in Bulgaria, Denmark or Luxembourg shows “The selected carrier product does not ship between these countries. Choose a different product.” Use GLS ParcelShop Delivery there. See Pick a service point and Service points. Both products need the receiver’s name, phone number and email address on the receiver party, because GLS sends the pickup notice there. Zippendo does not send the shipment without the phone number and email address, or with a phone number that is not valid for the receiver’s country (see Phone numbers below). With Test mode on, GLS’s test system knows most live points but not all of them. If it refuses a point, choose another one nearby.

Pick&Ship and Pick&Return

GLS picks the parcel up at the pickup address, so nobody has to hand it in.
  • GLS Pick&Ship picks up at the sender address on the shipment and delivers to the receiver. The receiver needs a phone number that is valid for their country.
  • GLS Pick&Return picks up at your customer’s address and delivers to your address, which needs a phone number that is valid for your country. Use it in a shipping rule for return shipments (Inbound). See Inbound and returns.
Neither product produces a label. GLS returns an A4 pickup order confirmation instead, which is listed on the shipment’s Documents tab.

Services

Choose services on the shipment or in a shipping rule. Each product lists the services GLS offers for that country and route, and a parcel that leaves the country offers fewer of them. For GLS BusinessParcel within the country:
  • FlexDeliveryService with SMS also adds the email notification.
  • SMSService (your own text) needs an SMS text of up to 130 characters, without |. GLS fills in #ParcelNr#, #COD#, #PickupDate#, #From_Name# and #ClientRef#.
  • DocumentReturnService needs a Document number of up to 15 characters. DayDefiniteService needs a Delivery date.
  • ExchangeService delivers the parcel and picks up the item being exchanged. GLS prints a return label for each parcel together with the outbound labels. ShopReturnService does the same.
  • DeclaredValueInsuranceService needs an Insured value in your GLS account’s currency, within GLS’s limits (see Insurance and cash on delivery limits below). It works only on a shipment with one parcel. For several parcels, split the shipment first: see Split and move parcels.
  • Outside the carrier’s country, FlexDeliveryService with SMS reaches only Croatia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia, and CashService (cash on delivery) reaches only the countries listed under Cash on delivery below.
The other products offer fewer services:
  • GLS ExpressParcel does not take FlexDeliveryService (email or SMS). The other services it takes depend on the country, and it takes none to another country.
  • GLS ParcelShop Delivery and GLS Parcel Locker Delivery take DeclaredValueInsuranceService, and CashService (cash on delivery) within the carrier’s country. From GLS Hungary they also take SMSService (your own text) and PreadviceService (SMS on delivery day) within Hungary. GLS sends the pickup notice itself, to the phone number and email address the shipment needs.
  • GLS Pick&Ship and GLS Pick&Return take no services.
The optional Content field sets the content line printed on the label. Without it, Zippendo builds that line from the order lines. The label prints at most 60 characters, so longer text is cut at 60.

Phone numbers

FlexDeliveryService with SMS, SMSService (your own text), PreadviceService (SMS on delivery day) and ContactService (driver calls ahead) text or call the receiver. GLS ParcelShop Delivery, GLS Parcel Locker Delivery, GLS Pick&Ship and GLS Pick&Return also need the phone number of the party GLS delivers to. Enter the number as it is dialed in that party’s country, for example 091 123 4568 in Croatia or 0722 222 222 in Romania, or with its country code (+385… or 00385…). A number with a country code keeps that country. If a number read this way cannot be a phone number of its country, for example because it is too short or too long, Zippendo stops the shipment before it reaches GLS. The shipment says which phone number is needed and shows an example number for the country, such as +40 712 034 567 for Romania.

Cash on delivery

Add CashService (cash on delivery) and enter the COD amount. The COD reference is optional. Without one, Zippendo sends the shipment reference. GLS collects the money in the destination country’s currency, which is chosen for you: Cash on delivery reaches only the countries in the table, and a ParcelShop or parcel locker only in the carrier’s own country. Zippendo stops it to any other destination before the shipment reaches GLS. Cash on delivery to another country also needs your GLS contract to include it. Otherwise GLS refuses the shipment. At a GLS parcel locker, the receiver cannot pay in cash. GLS collects Czech crowns in whole crowns and Hungarian forints in steps of 5. Zippendo rounds the COD amount to that step before it sends the shipment: 1,234.50 CZK is sent as 1,235 CZK, and 1,003 HUF as 1,005 HUF.

Insurance and cash on delivery limits

Zippendo checks these limits before it sends the shipment. The insured value is in the carrier’s own currency, whatever the destination.

Pickups, tracking and customs

  • The MyGLS countries are not available under Pickups. See Schedule a pickup for the carriers that are. Arrange regular pickups with GLS directly. For a one-off pickup, send the shipment with GLS Pick&Ship.
  • Zippendo fetches tracking updates from GLS about once an hour. There is nothing to set up. Shipments sent with Test mode on also get tracking events, from GLS’s test system. See Carrier tracking webhooks.
  • Every route stays inside the EU’s customs and VAT area, so there is no customs data to add. The Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla, and Åland are outside that area and are refused. See Customs and documents.

Change or remove the connection

To change it, open Carriers → My carriers and click Edit carrier on the card. The Edit carrier page has two sections:
  • General: Carrier name, and Brand if your organization has brands.
  • Carrier settings: Username (email), Password, Client number and Test mode.
Click Save. You see “Carrier updated”. To remove it, click Delete on the same page, type the carrier name in capital letters, and click Delete. Shipping rules that use this carrier are deleted with it. Shipments you already sent keep their labels and tracking numbers.
