Before you start
- A webshop on the Shopify Plus plan. Shopify allows the picker only on Shopify Plus, and on the development stores Shopify partners use to build webshops.
- A connected Shopify webshop with checkout rates set up.
- One or more shipping rules that deliver to a service point, for the countries you ship to.
Not on Shopify Plus? Your customers can still pick a service point at checkout: each one is shown as its own shipping method. See checkout rates. If your Shopify plan can’t show shipping prices from Zippendo at all, use service points in the cart.
Choose one way to show service points
The Service points at checkout card has three choices. Only one can be on at a time.
The picker can’t be on together with service points in the cart either, so switch that off first. Your home delivery shipping methods stay as they are.
Set up the picker
1
Switch it on in Zippendo
Click Order channels, open your Shopify webshop on the Connected tab, and go to the Orders & checkout tab. In the Service points at checkout card, under Customers pick a service point from, choose Zippendo checkout picker.
2
Approve the new permissions in Shopify
If the card says Approve Zippendo’s new permissions in Shopify, click Approve in Shopify and approve what Shopify shows you. Then reload the page in Zippendo and choose Zippendo checkout picker again.
3
Add the picker in the checkout editor
Click Open checkout editor. In Shopify’s checkout editor, click Apps (the third icon at the top of the left panel), click + next to Zippendo service point picker and choose Checkout. The picker goes under Shipping method. Step by step, with pictures: Add the service point picker to Shopify checkout.
4
Add it above the pickup lists too
Does your webshop offer pickup in store, or Shopify’s own pickup points? Then the checkout editor also offers Zippendo service point picker above those lists. Add it to each list your webshop shows. Your customers don’t see anything there, but when they switch to pickup, it removes the service point they picked before.
5
Show it in Shop Pay
In the picker’s settings, under Checkout behavior, turn on Include block in Shop Pay. Otherwise customers who pay with Shop Pay don’t see the picker.
6
Let the picker finish saving
Under Checkout behavior, also turn on Allow app to block checkout, then click Save at the top right. This only gives the picker a moment to save your customer’s choice before they pay. It never stops anyone from paying.
7
Check that it is live
Start a checkout in your webshop and choose a service point shipping method. On the card in Zippendo, Checkout picker status changes from Waiting for the first checkout to Live.
Add a map and address search
Your customers can always pick from the list and search it by postcode or service point name. With two optional keys from your own Google account, they get more:- Google Maps key: a map with a pin for each service point, with the carrier’s logo.
- Google address search key: customers can search any address or area, and move the map to see the service points there.
What your customers see
- At checkout, each service point shipping rule shows up once, with the rule’s name and the carrier’s logo.
- When they choose it, the nearest service point is picked for them. They see its name, distance, address and opening hours, such as “Mon-Fri 10:00-19:00”.
- To pick another one, they click Change service point. They can search a postcode or a service point name, and with an address search key, also an address or an area. The list shows 5 service points at a time, with arrows to see more.
- With a Google Maps key, they can switch between List and Map. They click a pin to see the opening hours and pick that service point. With an address search key too, they can search an address on the map or just move the map to see the service points there.
- They pick a service point and go on to payment. If they switch to home delivery instead, the service point is removed from the order.
Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay
With these quick payment buttons, your customers skip the part of checkout where the picker is:- Apple Pay and Google Pay: the customer pays without seeing the picker.
- Shop Pay, when Include block in Shop Pay is off.
After the order is placed
In Shopify, you see the service point your customer chose on the order, under Additional details. In Zippendo, the shipment is created with the rule’s carrier, product and sender address and the chosen service point, ready to send. If your customer didn’t choose one, the shipment uses the nearest service point, or has none when the carrier has none near the address.Webshops that use PeakWMS
Is your webshop set to Checkout rates only (another system handles the orders), because PeakWMS handles your orders? Then PeakWMS gets the service point your customer chose with each order. A rule for service points needs only its one Host ID in PeakWMS, whichever service point your customer picks. See PeakWMS for the Host IDs. If your customer’s service point no longer fits the shipping method they chose, checkout asks them to choose again. If another app on your webshop also fills the order fieldpeak_shipping_code, turn that app off, or orders can get the wrong carrier or service point. If the card says Remove or change the order field peak_shipping_code in Shopify first, remove or change that field under Settings > Custom data > Orders in Shopify, then choose Zippendo checkout picker again.
When the picker switches itself off
Zippendo switches the picker off, back to the rate list, when:- you change What Zippendo is used for, from importing orders to checkout rates only, or back.
- you uninstall the Zippendo app in Shopify.
Switch it off
- On the card, choose Rate list (one rate per service point). Checkout goes back to one shipping method for each service point.
- You can leave Zippendo service point picker in the checkout editor: customers don’t see it while the picker is off. On a webshop set to Checkout rates only (another system handles the orders), wait a few days before you remove it, so customers who were already in checkout still get the service point they picked.
Troubleshooting
- The card doesn’t offer the Zippendo checkout picker. Your webshop isn’t on Shopify Plus. The picker works only there.
- The card says Couldn’t reach Shopify. Try again in a moment. Wait a moment and reload the page.
- The status stays on Waiting for the first checkout. Check that you added Zippendo service point picker in the checkout editor and clicked Save. Then start a checkout and choose a service point shipping method. Until then, customers see one shipping method for each service point.
- The status went back to Waiting for the first checkout. Nobody has seen the picker in a checkout for 7 days. Until someone does, customers see one shipping method for each service point. Start a checkout with a service point shipping method to bring it back.
- The card says Turn off service points in the cart first, or Install Zippendo Pickup Points first. Only one way to show service points can be on at a time. Turn off the other one, or finish setting it up.
- Shop Pay customers don’t see the picker. Turn on Include block in Shop Pay for the picker in the checkout editor.
- There is no map. Add a Google Maps key, and check that it allows your webshop’s addresses. See Get Google keys for the service point map and address search. When checkout shows the shipping methods in a window on top of the page, there is no Map button, because Shopify allows no map there. Customers use the list.
- No service points are found. Check that a shipping rule that delivers to a service point covers the customer’s country. Customers can also search another postcode, or another address if you added an address search key.
- Zippendo says Google didn’t accept this key. The address search key is locked to websites, or doesn’t allow the Geocoding API. Fix it in Google Cloud, as described in Get Google keys for the service point map and address search.
- Customers can’t search an address, or moving the map shows no new service points. Add a Google address search key. If you already saved one, check in Google Cloud that it still allows the Geocoding API and that billing is set up.
- A shipment from the picker has no service point. The carrier has no service point near the delivery address, or the customer paid with a quick payment button and skipped the picker. Carriers such as PostNord choose the nearest service point themselves when you send the shipment. For other carriers, open the shipment, choose a service point under Service point, and send it. See Pick a service point.
- The picker disappeared after you changed what Zippendo is used for, or uninstalled the app. Zippendo switched it off. Choose Zippendo checkout picker again.
