Before you start
- You need a Shopify store and admin access to it.
- You install Zippendo from the Shopify App Store. You approve the app in Shopify, then finish the setup in Zippendo.
Connect your webshop
1
Open the catalog
Click Order channels in the sidebar, then the Catalog tab.
2
Click Connect Shopify
On the Shopify card, click Connect Shopify. The Connect your Shopify store window explains the steps.
3
Install the app in Shopify
Click Open Shopify App Store, install the Zippendo app on your webshop and approve the permissions it asks for.
4
Finish the setup in Zippendo
Shopify sends you back to Zippendo. Sign in, or create an account, if you need to. Then choose your organization and, if you like, a default sender address.
5
Choose what Zippendo is used for
Under What Zippendo is used for, pick Import orders and show rates at checkout (the usual setup), or Checkout rates only (another system handles the orders) if another system already handles your orders. See “If another system handles your orders” below. With Import orders and show rates at checkout, you also choose how far back to import existing orders. The checkout-rates-only choice imports nothing, so it doesn’t ask.
6
Click Connect Shopify store
You land on Order channels, with your webshop on the Connected tab.
Zippendo sets up everything Shopify needs to send new orders across in real time. You don’t need to change anything in Shopify for orders to arrive.
Already a paying Zippendo customer? Your existing subscription continues unchanged. Installing the app does not move your billing to Shopify.
After connecting
- Your store is listed on Order channels, on the Connected tab. Click it to see its settings and connection details, or to disconnect it.
- New orders from the webshop appear under Orders. Open an order and click Create shipment to ship it.
- If you have more than one Shopify webshop, connect each one separately. Each gets its own settings.
- Fulfillment sync is on by default. When you send a shipment in Zippendo, the Shopify order is marked as fulfilled with its tracking number. Turn off Fulfillment sync to Shopify in the webshop’s settings if you don’t want that.
- Show live rates at checkout. With Shopify’s “Carrier-Calculated Shipping”, your shipping rules appear as rates at checkout, including service points your customers pick themselves. See Live rates in Shopify checkout.
- No “Carrier-Calculated Shipping” in your store? Link your manual Shopify rate names to shipping rules, so orders arrive ready to send. See Shopify without carrier-calculated shipping.
If another system handles your orders
Some businesses keep their orders in another system, such as a warehouse system, and use Zippendo only for shipping. If that sounds like you, pick Checkout rates only (another system handles the orders) when you connect the webshop. You can also change it later: open the webshop under Order channels and, under What Zippendo is used for, turn off Import orders from this webshop.
From then on, the system that holds your orders is the one that marks them as fulfilled.
Reinstalling the app later, which Shopify does whenever the app is updated, keeps this choice. The setup page shows what the webshop already had, so a webshop set to checkout rates only never starts importing orders again by surprise.
If Zippendo is where you handle your orders, which is the usual setup, leave Import orders from this webshop on. To see how this works with a warehouse system, have a look at PeakWMS.
