Zippendo can show live carrier rates in your Shopify checkout, but that needs Shopify’s “third-party carrier-calculated shipping”. Shopify includes it on the Advanced and Plus plans. On other plans Shopify offers it for a monthly fee, or free when you switch to annual billing. If your webshop doesn’t have carrier-calculated shipping, you can still ship everything through Zippendo. Your orders come in as usual. You only tell Zippendo which shipping rule to use for each of your manual Shopify rates. That is what Shipping method mapping does: an order whose shipping method is called “GLS Hjemmelevering” in Shopify arrives with the shipping rule you chose, ready to send.

Before you start

  • A connected Shopify store.
  • One or more manual shipping rates in Shopify (Settings → Shipping and delivery in your Shopify admin).
  • A shipping rule in Zippendo for each way you ship, with the carrier and product you want.

Set up the mapping

1

Open your store's settings

In Zippendo, click Order channels, open your Shopify webshop on the Connected tab, and stay on the Orders & checkout tab.
2

Add a mapping

Scroll to Shipping method mapping and click Add mapping.
3

Enter the Shopify shipping method

In Shopify shipping method, type the rate name exactly as your customers see it at checkout, for example GLS Hjemmelevering. Capital letters and spaces at the start or end don’t matter, but everything else must match exactly. “GLS Hjemmelevering Express” is a different method and needs its own row.
4

Choose the shipping rule

In Shipping rule, pick the rule that should handle these orders. The rule decides the carrier, product, sender address and any services.
5

Choose how the service point is picked (service point rules only)

If the rule’s product delivers to a service point, a Service point choice appears:
  • Nearest automatically: Zippendo picks the service point closest to the receiver’s address when the order arrives. The shipment is ready to send straight away.
  • Choose manually: the shipment is created as a draft with the carrier filled in, and you pick the service point yourself before sending. See Find a service point.
6

Save

Add a row for each shipping rate in your webshop, then click Save changes.

What happens when orders arrive

  • An order whose shipping method matches a row gets a shipment with that rule’s carrier and product, ready to send. Automatic printing and documents work if the rule has them turned on.
  • An order whose shipping method matches no row still comes in as usual. Its shipment is created as a draft, and you choose the carrier yourself.
  • Orders that are already fulfilled in Shopify come in as fulfilled and never get a shipment, so nothing is shipped twice, even with Send shipments automatically turned on.
With Nearest automatically, if Zippendo can’t look up service points, or finds none near the receiver, the shipment stays a draft so you can pick one yourself. Nothing is sent to a service point you haven’t seen.
Without carrier-calculated shipping, your customers can’t pick a service point at checkout. The nearest one to their address is chosen for them. If letting customers choose matters to your webshop, turn on carrier-calculated shipping and use checkout rates instead.

Troubleshooting

  • Orders arrive as drafts even though a mapping exists. Compare the text in the row with the shipping method shown on the order. It must match exactly, apart from capital letters and spaces at the ends. Renamed the rate in Shopify? Update the row to match.
  • A mapped shipment can’t be sent because it needs a service point. The rule’s product was changed to a service point product after you saved the mapping. Open the mapping, check the Service point choice and save again.
  • You want live rates at checkout after all. Turn on third-party carrier-calculated shipping in Shopify and set up checkout rates. New orders then use the rate the customer picked at checkout, and your mappings simply stop matching anything.
