Before you start
- A connected Shopify webshop whose orders Zippendo imports.
- Shipping method mapping with at least one Shopify shipping method linked to a shipping rule whose product delivers to a service point, such as “GLS Pakkeshop”.
Using checkout rates? Your customers already pick a service point at checkout, and you don’t need this. On Shopify Plus you can also use the service point picker in checkout. This page is for webshops that use their own Shopify shipping methods, and it can’t be on at the same time as the picker or Shopify’s pickup point map.
Set up service points in the cart
1
Open your webshop's settings
In Zippendo, click Order channels, open your Shopify webshop on the Connected tab, and stay on the Orders & checkout tab. Scroll to the Service points in the cart card, below Shipping method mapping.
2
Map a service point shipping method
If the card shows Map a service point shipping method, go to Shipping method mapping, link one of your Shopify shipping methods to a shipping rule that delivers to a service point, and click Save changes.
3
Approve the new permissions in Shopify
If the card shows Approve Zippendo’s new permissions in Shopify, click Approve in Shopify. Zippendo opens in your Shopify admin and asks you to approve the new permissions. Approve them, then come back to Zippendo.
4
Switch it on
Under Switch on service points in the cart, click Switch on.
5
Add the service point picker to your cart
Click Open theme editor. Shopify’s theme editor opens with Service point picker in the cart switched on. Click Save in the theme editor, or your customers won’t see the picker.
Choose how checkout behaves
Once it is on, the card has these settings. Each change is saved straight away.- When a customer picks a service point shipping method without choosing a service point:
- Stop checkout and ask them to choose: checkout shows “Choose your service point in the cart before you place the order.” The customer can’t place the order until they pick a service point in the cart.
- Let the order through and use the mapping’s service point setting: the order is placed, and Zippendo uses the Service point choice on the mapping (Nearest automatically or Choose manually).
- Show the chosen service point in the shipping method name: at checkout, your shipping method shows the service point the customer picked, for example “GLS Pakkeshop – Netto, Vesterbrogade 101”. Turn it off to keep your own name.
What your customers see
- Above the checkout button, under Choose a shipping method, customers pick Home delivery or Service point.
- Service point opens a window called Pickup at a service point that asks for their country and postcode. They click Find service points.
- The window lists the service points each carrier finds near that postcode, for each of your service point shipping methods, nearest first, with the name, address and distance, and the opening hours when the carrier provides them. With a Google Maps key, a map next to the list shows each service point. Clicking a pin selects that service point in the list.
- They click Use this service point. The Service point card shows their choice and the shipping method to choose at checkout. They can click Change or Remove.
- Home delivery removes a chosen service point and reminds them to choose home delivery at checkout.
- At checkout, they choose that shipping method. Service point shipping methods that can’t deliver to the chosen service point are hidden, so the service point and the shipping method always match. Your other shipping methods, such as home delivery, stay available.
After the order is placed
Zippendo imports the order as usual. When the customer chose the matching shipping method, the shipment is created with the mapped shipping rule and the service point they picked, ready to send. When they chose another shipping method at checkout, such as home delivery, the order follows that method’s mapping and the service point from the cart is ignored.Limits
- Express checkout buttons, such as Shop Pay, skip the cart, so customers who use them can’t pick a service point there.
- Your shipping methods and prices in Shopify stay your own. Zippendo only adds the service point.
Switch it off
On the card, click Switch off. Checkout goes back to your shipping methods as you named them in Shopify. Then turn off Service point picker in the cart in the theme editor, or remove the Service point picker block, and click Save.Troubleshooting
- The card shows Not available. Zippendo doesn’t import this webshop’s orders. See the warning above.
- The card says customers already pick a service point at checkout. The service point picker or the service point map is on. Only one way to show service points can be on at a time: under Service points at checkout, choose Rate list (one rate per service point) first.
- The card still asks you to approve permissions. Open Zippendo from Apps in your Shopify admin and approve the update Shopify shows. Then reload the page in Zippendo.
- Customers don’t see the picker in the cart. Click Open theme editor and check that Service point picker in the cart is switched on, then click Save. If your theme or cart app still hides it, add the Service point picker block to your cart page.
- There is no map in the window. Add a Google Maps key on the card, and check that the key allows your webshop’s domain. See Get Google keys for the service point map and address search.
- The picker finds no service points. Make sure the customer’s country has a shipping rule with a service point product, and that the rule is mapped under Shipping method mapping.
- The shipping method name doesn’t show the service point. Show the chosen service point in the shipping method name is off, or the name would be too long. The service point is still used for the shipment.
