Parcel lockers and pickup points let your customers collect an order from a locker or a shop near them instead of waiting at home, and in most European countries at least one carrier runs a network of them. Which network you can offer depends on the country you ship to and the carrier contracts you hold: InPost Paczkomat lockers in Poland, GLS ParcelShops and lockers across Central Europe, Budbee and Instabox lockers in the Nordics, PostNL locations in the Netherlands, Royal Mail Local Collect in the UK and many more. This guide lists, country by country, the locker and service point networks you can offer at checkout through Zippendo, what each one takes, and how your customers choose a point in Shopify and WooCommerce.
Key takeaways
Most European countries have several locker and service point networks, run by national posts and by parcel carriers such as GLS, DPD, InPost and DHL.
Your customer can choose the exact locker or service point at checkout, and the order arrives with that point already on it.
Service point and locker products usually take one parcel per shipment and lower weights than home delivery, often 20 kg.
The same networks often take returns, with a printed label, a QR code or a code your customer writes on the parcel.
Why offer parcel lockers and pickup points at checkout?
Because a parcel that waits in a locker or a shop does not need anyone at home, so fewer deliveries fail and fewer parcels go back to you. Your customer collects it when it suits them, often on the way to or from work, and some networks, such as InPost's Paczkomat lockers, are open around the clock in most places. Customers who choose a point themselves also know exactly where the parcel will be, so fewer of them write to ask where their order is.
Choice matters as well. Some customers always want the door, others never want to be home for a courier, and many have a favourite network. Offering both home delivery and a pickup option, with prices you set for each, lets every customer pick the delivery they trust. Your carrier prices each product on your contract separately, so ask for both when you negotiate.
How do customers pick a service point at checkout?
They see the service points nearest to their address as shipping options and pick one, and the order arrives in Zippendo with that point on it, ready to send. Each of your shipping rules that delivers to a service point shows up at checkout with the price you set on it, and Zippendo finds the nearest points from your own carrier connection.
- Shopify: with Shopify live checkout rates, each nearby service point appears as its own shipping option. You choose how many service points to show in total, from 1 to 20.
- Shopify Plus: the Zippendo service point picker shows each service point shipping method once, with the nearest point already chosen, its address and opening hours. Your customer can change it from a list, or from a map if you add your own Google Maps key.
- Shopify without carrier-calculated shipping: your customers choose home delivery or a service point in the cart, find a point near them and pick it, and you keep your own Shopify shipping methods.
- WooCommerce: the Zippendo plugin for WooCommerce adds the service point selector to both the classic and the block-based checkout.
When an order arrives without a chosen point, Zippendo can pick the one nearest to the receiver's address, and you can change it on the shipment before you send. The service points guide in our docs covers every option.
Which locker and pickup point networks can you offer, country by country?

What should you check before offering lockers and pickup points?
Check four things with each carrier: weight and size, parcels per shipment, the receiver's contact details, and the countries your contract covers.
- Weight and size: lockers have fixed compartments, so the limits are lower than for home delivery. Many products stop at 20 kg, InPost lockers take up to 25 kg, and parcels to a GLS point in another country take at most 20 kg.
- One parcel per shipment: most locker and service point products take a single parcel. Split larger orders into several shipments, or send them to the door with a shipping rule based on weight.
- Phone number and email: the carrier tells your customer by SMS or email when the parcel is ready, so most point products need both. InPost needs a phone number and an email address for both you and the receiver.
- Countries on your contract: a carrier may run points in a country your contract does not cover, and cross-border point delivery can carry different limits. A route outside your contract is refused when you send.
- Credentials for point search: a few carriers need an extra key for their point search, such as a DPD Pickup API key for DPD Polska, a DHL Developer Portal API key for DHL eCommerce Europe, or a Royal Mail API Portal app with Local Collect enabled.
How do returns work through lockers and service points?
Most carriers that run lockers and service points also take returns there, so your customer can hand the parcel back where they collected it. In Zippendo, you create the return from the original shipment, and your customer gets a label, a QR code or a code to write on the parcel.
- InPost Return: your customer drops the parcel at an InPost locker or service point, with a printed label or a short drop-off code typed at the locker.
- Budbee and Instabox: locker returns, with an optional labelless service so your customer prints nothing. Budbee can also collect a return from your customer's door.
- PostNord Return: your customer drops the parcel at a service point, with a QR code sent by email or SMS, a label printed at the service point, or a code written on the parcel.
- GLS ShopReturn: a return label your customer takes to a GLS ParcelShop. With GLS Germany, Austria, Belgium, France and Ireland, a Shop Returns QR code can replace the label in most countries.
- DPD Return: in Latvia and Lithuania, your customer drops the parcel at any DPD Pickup point, and DPD Switzerland offers a label-free return with a QR code.
- Posti, Matkahuolto and Helthjem: label-free returns with a code, handed in at a parcel locker or service point.
