About Shopify shipping with Zippendo

Shopify is great at selling, but it leaves the shipping to you: booking parcels with GLS, PostNord or DAO, printing labels and getting tracking numbers back onto the order. Zippendo is the shipping platform that sits between your Shopify store and your carriers. You install it from the Shopify App Store, your orders sync in on their own, and you ship them with the carrier agreements you already have.

Zippendo doesn't resell freight. You keep your own prices with each carrier, and the carriers keep invoicing you directly. Zippendo books the shipments, prints the labels and keeps Shopify up to date.

Why use Zippendo with Shopify?

Most Shopify stores outgrow copying addresses into carrier portals somewhere around the first busy month. Here is what changes when Zippendo handles the shipping.

Orders sync from Shopify in near real time

When you connect your store, Zippendo registers the order webhooks with Shopify for you. New, updated, cancelled and fulfilled orders arrive in Zippendo within moments, with line items, weights, HS codes and the customer's address. On the connect screen you choose whether to start with only new orders, import the last 30 days, or import from a specific date. Orders already fulfilled in Shopify come in as fulfilled and never get a new shipment, so nothing is shipped twice.

Live shipping rates and pickup points at checkout

Zippendo adds itself to Shopify as a rate provider called Zippendo Shipping. Add it to a shipping zone, and your checkout shows your Zippendo shipping rules as live rates, priced by weight, cart value or quantity. For parcel shop products, each nearby pickup point appears as its own option with the shop's name, address and distance, so the customer picks the exact shop. You decide how many pickup points to show, from 1 to 20 (6 by default).

Live rates need Shopify's third-party carrier-calculated shipping. It is included on the Advanced and Plus plans, and Shopify offers it on other plans for a monthly fee or with annual billing. On a store without it, you map your manual Shopify rate names, for example "GLS Hjemmelevering", to Zippendo shipping rules, and orders still arrive ready to ship. For parcel shop rules, Zippendo then picks the shop nearest the customer's address, or leaves the shipment as a draft for you to choose.

Labels that book and print themselves

The rate the customer chose at checkout travels with the order, so the shipment is created with the right carrier, product, sender address and pickup point. Turn on Auto-send new orders and Zippendo books each shipment with the carrier the moment the order arrives. Shipping rules with automatic printing send the label, and documents like packing slips, straight to your warehouse printer through the Zippendo printer client.

Fulfillment and tracking written back to Shopify

When you dispatch a shipment in Zippendo, the Shopify order is marked as fulfilled with its tracking number. This is on by default, and you can turn it off per store. Zippendo keeps following the parcel with the carrier, so you see where it is without logging in anywhere else.

Return labels from the same rules

Add a return rule with a return product, such as GLS ShopReturn, and attach it to the shipping rule you ship with. Zippendo can then create the return label automatically when the outbound parcel is dispatched, or you create it with one click from the shipment when a customer asks.

Rates only, if another system owns your orders

Some stores keep their orders in a warehouse system and only need Zippendo for the checkout. Choose Checkout rates only when you connect, and Shopify still shows your rates and pickup points while orders stay where they are. Shopify reinstalls apps whenever they are updated, and Zippendo keeps this choice when that happens.

Getting started in three steps

  1. Install Zippendo from the Shopify App Store. In Zippendo, open Order channels, click Connect Shopify and then Open Shopify App Store. Install the app on your store and approve the permissions. You never type in a myshopify.com address. See Connect Shopify.
  2. Finish the connection in Zippendo. Shopify sends you back to Zippendo, where you sign in or create an account, choose your organization, a default sender address and how far back to import orders. See the Shopify quickstart.
  3. Turn on rates and rules. Add Zippendo Shipping to your shipping zones in Shopify and pick which shipping rules appear at checkout, or map your manual rates if your plan has no carrier-calculated shipping. See checkout rates, shipping method mapping and Shopify settings.

Already a paying Zippendo customer? Your subscription stays as it is when you install the app. If you start from the Shopify App Store, your Zippendo plan is billed through Shopify. Plans are on the pricing page.

Carriers that work with Shopify

Every carrier you connect in Zippendo works with your Shopify store, each with your own agreement. Danish stores usually start with GLS, PostNord or DAO for parcel shop and home delivery. Bring adds pickup point, mailbox and parcel locker delivery, Budbee and Instabox deliver to lockers and homes, and DHL Express and UPS handle express and international parcels. Your shipping rules decide which carrier each order goes with, so you can mix them freely. See all integrations for the full list.

Selling on more than one platform? Zippendo also connects to WooCommerce, and your orders from both stores land in the same list.
