Klaviyo

Send shipment, order and tracking events from Zippendo to Klaviyo and use them as metrics in your flows. Tell customers their parcel is on the way in your own Klaviyo design.

About Klaviyo

Klaviyo is a marketing platform for email and SMS that a lot of webshops already use for newsletters, abandoned cart flows and post-purchase messages. Everything in Klaviyo is built around profiles and the events they trigger, which Klaviyo calls metrics. A flow starts when a metric happens, and segments can be built from the same metrics.

Why connect Klaviyo to Zippendo?

Your webshop knows when an order is placed. It usually doesn't know when the parcel is actually booked with the carrier, or when the tracking status changes. Zippendo does, because that's where your shipments are created. Connect Klaviyo, and those moments arrive in Klaviyo as metrics you can build flows on.

Shipping emails in your own Klaviyo design

When Zippendo books a shipment with the carrier, Klaviyo receives a Shipment Dispatched metric. Use it to start a flow that tells the customer the parcel is on its way, in the same templates and tone as the rest of your emails, instead of a generic carrier notification.

Tracking updates as email or SMS

Every time a carrier reports a new tracking status, Zippendo can send a Tracking Updated metric with the tracking number, the carrier and the new status. Build a flow that filters on the status, for example a text message when the parcel is out for delivery or a reminder when it is ready for pickup.

Segments built on what you actually shipped

When an event carries the customer's email or phone number, Klaviyo stores the metric on that profile. That gives you segments like customers whose shipment was cancelled, or customers you shipped to in the last 30 days, without exporting anything from your webshop.

Conditions and delays before Klaviyo hears about it

If you only want some events to reach Klaviyo, build it as an automation in Zippendo instead. Add a condition on any field, a delay, and the Send Klaviyo Event action with your own metric name and extra properties.

What you can do with Klaviyo and Zippendo

  • Shipment Created: a shipment was created in Zippendo (sent for shipment.created)
  • Shipment Dispatched: the shipment was booked with the carrier and has a label (shipment.dispatched)
  • Shipment Cancelled: the shipment was cancelled (shipment.cancelled)
  • Order Created and Order Updated: an order came in from your shop or was changed (order.created, order.updated)
  • Tracking Updated: the carrier reported a new tracking status (tracking.updated)
  • Your own metric names: override the name per event on the connection, or per action in an automation
  • Profile and properties: Zippendo sets the profile's email, phone number and name when the event carries them, and adds the event data plus source: zippendo and event_type as properties
  • Test event and delivery log: send a Zippendo Test Event from the connection card and see every delivery attempt and Klaviyo's response

How do I connect Klaviyo?

Klaviyo needs shipping events, so connect your shop and a carrier first. Zippendo has ready-made integrations for Shopify and WooCommerce, and other systems can send orders through the API. Your shipping rules then book orders with carriers like GLS, PostNord or DAO, and each of those steps can become a Klaviyo metric. You can run Klaviyo next to other apps such as Slack and Zapier; see all integrations.

In Zippendo, open Apps & integrations, find Klaviyo in the catalog and click Connect. You need a Klaviyo Private API Key with permission to create events. Choose which events Zippendo should send automatically, save, and send a test event. The Klaviyo setup guide in our docs covers each step and the most common errors.
