# Connect GLS Netherlands

> Connect GLS Netherlands under Carriers with the Username and Password of your MyGLS account from GLS Netherlands, plus the optional Customer number and Test mode.

**GLS Netherlands** ships parcels from the Netherlands: within the country and to the rest of the EU, express delivery before a set time, delivery to GLS ParcelShops, return labels for your customers, and collections with Pick\&Ship and Pick\&Return. GLS Netherlands has its own API and its own form. For GLS in other countries, see [Connect GLS Denmark](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/connect-gls.md), [Connect GLS (MyGLS)](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/connect-gls-mygls.md) and [Connect GLS Germany, Austria, Belgium, France or Ireland](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/connect-gls-shipit.md). The fields that every carrier shares are on [Carrier credentials](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/carrier-credentials.md).

> [!NOTE]
>
> You do not pick a sender address on this form. Add your addresses under the organization menu → **Manage** → **Addresses**. You choose the sender address on each shipment or in a [shipping rule](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/shipping-rule-fields.md). Every outbound product ships from an address in the Netherlands.

## Before you start

* A contract with GLS Netherlands and the username and password of your MyGLS account, which GLS Netherlands gives you with the contract. This is GLS Netherlands' own MyGLS, not the MyGLS of GLS in Central Europe.
* If your MyGLS account holds more than one GLS customer number, the one you ship with.
* For **Test mode**, a test login from GLS Netherlands. Your live login does not work in the test system.

## Connect GLS Netherlands

**1. Open All carriers**

In the sidebar, click **Carriers**, then open the **All carriers** tab.

**2. Find GLS Netherlands**

Find the **GLS Netherlands** card and click **Connect**.

**3. Fill in the form**

The **Connect carrier** window opens. Enter a **Carrier name**, your **Username** and **Password**. **Customer number** and **Test mode** are under **Optional fields**.

**4. Connect the carrier**

Click **Connect**. You see "Carrier connected", and the carrier appears on the **My carriers** tab.

## Fields on the form

| Field | Required | What to enter |
| - | - | - |
| **Carrier name** | Yes | The name you see on **My carriers** and when you pick a carrier on a shipment. It starts as **GLS Netherlands**. |
| **Brand** | No | Shown only if your organization has [brands](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/create-a-brand.md). The form says: "Only this brand can use this carrier." Leave it empty to let every brand use it. |
| **Username** | Yes | The form says: "The username of your MyGLS account. GLS Netherlands gives it to you with your contract." |
| **Password** | Yes | Your MyGLS password, exactly as you type it. The form says: "The password of your MyGLS account (at most 20 characters)." |
| **Customer number** | No | The form says: "Only needed when your MyGLS account holds more than one GLS customer number: the one to ship with (7 or 8 characters)." |
| **Test mode** | No | A checkbox, off by default. On: GLS Netherlands' test system. Off: the live service. The form says: "Use GLS Netherlands' test system. It needs a test login from GLS. Leave it off for real shipments." |

**Connect** does nothing until **Carrier name**, **Username** and **Password** have a value. Zippendo saves your details without checking them with GLS. A mistake shows up the first time you send a shipment.

### Keep the password up to date

When GLS refuses the username or password, Zippendo stops sending requests with that password for about an hour, so that repeated attempts do not lock your MyGLS account. When you change your MyGLS password, update **Password** on **Edit carrier** straight away. Zippendo uses the new password at once.

## After you connect

The carrier appears on **My carriers** with a **Connected** badge and a **Beta** badge. You choose the product on each shipment or in a shipping rule. See [Carrier products and services](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/carrier-products-and-services.md).

| Product | Use it for |
| - | - |
| **GLS BusinessParcel** | Delivery to an address in the Netherlands. |
| **GLS EuroBusinessParcel** | Delivery to an address in another EU country. |
| **GLS ExpressParcel** | Delivery in the Netherlands before a set time the next working day, or on Saturday. Choose the time in **Delivery before**. Not to the Wadden Islands. |
| **GLS ParcelShop Delivery** | Delivery to the GLS ParcelShop your customer chooses in the Netherlands. |
| **GLS ShopReturn** (return shipment) | A return label your customer takes to any GLS ParcelShop in the Netherlands. The parcel comes back to you. |
| **GLS Pick\&Ship** | GLS collects the parcel at the pickup address in the Netherlands and delivers it in the Netherlands or another EU country. No label is printed. |
| **GLS Pick\&Return** (return shipment) | GLS collects the parcel from your customer in the Netherlands or another EU country and brings it to you. No label is printed. |

A parcel takes at most 32 kg. Destinations outside the EU are not offered: these shipments carry no customs data.

### Services and options

* **ShopReturnService (return label in the parcel)**: GLS prints a return label with each parcel label, for your customer to use. It is listed on the shipment's **Documents** tab after the parcel labels. Offered on **GLS BusinessParcel**, **GLS ExpressParcel** and **GLS ParcelShop Delivery**.
* **SaturdayService**: delivery on Saturday, on **GLS BusinessParcel**.
* **Delivery before** (required on **GLS ExpressParcel**): before 09:00, 12:00 or 17:00 on a weekday or on Saturday. Saturday delivery costs extra.
* **Label format**: **PDF (A6)**, or ZPL for a Zebra label printer at 203 or 300 dpi. The shipment's **Documents** tab lists the label size as **100x150**.

### Service points

**GLS ParcelShop Delivery** delivers to a GLS ParcelShop. Choose it in the **Service point** section of the shipment before you send. The search lists GLS ParcelShops in the Netherlands near the receiver's postal code. The receiver needs an email address or a phone number, so GLS can tell them the parcel has arrived. See [Pick a service point](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/pick-a-service-point.md).

### Labels, tracking and pickups

* Each parcel gets its own label and GLS parcel number. GLS issues a label once, when you send. If GLS books a shipment but returns no usable label, Zippendo cancels the booking at GLS and tells you, so you can send it again.
* Zippendo fetches tracking updates from GLS Netherlands about once an hour with your login. There is nothing to set up. See [Carrier tracking webhooks](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/tracking-webhooks.md).
* GLS Netherlands is not available under **Pickups**. For a one-off collection, send the shipment with **GLS Pick\&Ship**. Arrange regular pickups with GLS directly.

## Change or remove the connection

To change it, open **Carriers** → **My carriers** and click **Edit carrier** on the card. **Carrier settings** holds **Username**, **Password**, **Customer number** and **Test mode**. Click **Save**. You see "Carrier updated".

To remove it, click **Delete** on the same page, type the carrier name in capital letters, and click **Delete**. Shipping rules that use this carrier are deleted with it. Shipments you already sent keep their labels and tracking numbers.

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| "Couldn't connect the carrier. Try again." | Check that every required field has a value, then try again. |
| "The carrier rejected your login details. Update the carrier credentials under Carriers." when you send | GLS refused the username or password, or a test login is used with **Test mode** off. See **Keep the password up to date** above. |
| "The carrier's settings are incomplete or not valid. Check them under Carriers." | The **Customer number** is not 7 or 8 characters, or the username or password is longer than GLS accepts. |
| "GLS doesn't accept this address. Check the address and postal code, then try again." | A name, street, postal code, city or email address is longer than GLS accepts: Zippendo stops it rather than cutting it. It also shows for **GLS ParcelShop Delivery** with neither an email address nor a valid phone number for the receiver. The shipment shows the reason. |
| "Some options for this carrier product are missing or not valid. Check the shipment's services and options, then try again." | Zippendo checks these before it sends the shipment: **GLS ExpressParcel** without **Delivery before**, a service the product does not offer, no service point on **GLS ParcelShop Delivery**, or a parcel with no weight or over 32 kg. The shipment shows the reason. |
| "The selected carrier product does not ship between these countries. Choose a different product." | The product does not cover this route, for example **GLS BusinessParcel** to another country, a sender address outside the Netherlands, or a destination outside the EU. |
| "GLS couldn't create the shipment." | GLS refused the shipment. The shipment shows GLS's reason. |
| "The connection to the carrier was lost before it answered. Zippendo has no confirmation that the shipment was created, so check with the carrier before sending again." | GLS did not confirm the shipment. Look it up in MyGLS before you send it again. |
