# Connect GLS Canada

> Connect GLS Canada under Carriers with the Username and Password of your GLS Canada online shipping login and your Billing account number, plus the optional Test mode.

**GLS Canada** ships parcels between addresses in Canada: ground delivery across the country, and **GLS Express** next-business-day air delivery from Ontario and Quebec. It is a separate company from GLS in Europe, with its own form: for GLS in Europe see [Connect GLS Denmark](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/connect-gls.md), [Connect GLS (MyGLS)](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/connect-gls-mygls.md) and [Connect GLS Germany, Austria, Belgium, France or Ireland](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/connect-gls-shipit.md). The fields that every carrier shares are on [Carrier credentials](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/carrier-credentials.md).

> [!NOTE]
>
> You do not pick a sender address on this form. Add your addresses under the organization menu → **Manage** → **Addresses**. You choose the sender address on each shipment or in a [shipping rule](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/shipping-rule-fields.md). Every GLS Canada shipment goes from an address in Canada to an address in Canada.

## Before you start

* A GLS Canada Parcel account and its **billing account number** (6 digits). Shipments are billed to this account.
* Your GLS Canada online shipping login: the username or email address and password you sign in with. If you have none, ask your GLS Canada contact for one.
* For **Test mode**, a test login from GLS Canada. Your live login does not work in the test system.

## Connect GLS Canada

**1. Open All carriers**

In the sidebar, click **Carriers**, then open the **All carriers** tab.

**2. Find GLS Canada**

Find the **GLS Canada** card and click **Connect**.

**3. Fill in the form**

The **Connect carrier** window opens. Enter a **Carrier name**, your **Username**, **Password** and **Billing account number**. **Test mode** is the only field under **Optional fields**.

**4. Connect the carrier**

Click **Connect**. You see "Carrier connected", and the carrier appears on the **My carriers** tab.

## Fields on the form

| Field | Required | What to enter |
| - | - | - |
| **Carrier name** | Yes | The name you see on **My carriers** and when you pick a carrier on a shipment. It starts as **GLS Canada**. |
| **Brand** | No | Shown only if your organization has [brands](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/create-a-brand.md). The form says: "Only this brand can use this carrier." Leave it empty to let every brand use it. |
| **Username** | Yes | The form says: "The email address or username you sign in to GLS Canada's online shipping with." |
| **Password** | Yes | Your password, exactly as you type it when you sign in. The form says: "The password for that username." |
| **Billing account number** | Yes | The form says: "Your GLS Canada Parcel billing account number, 6 digits. Shipments are billed to this account." |
| **Test mode** | No | A checkbox, off by default. On: GLS Canada's test system. Off: GLS Canada's live service. The form says: "Use GLS Canada's test system. Requires a test login from GLS Canada. Leave off for real shipments." |

**Connect** does nothing until **Carrier name**, **Username**, **Password** and **Billing account number** have a value. Zippendo saves your details without checking them with GLS Canada. A mistake shows up the first time you send a shipment.

### Keep the password up to date

GLS Canada locks a login for a few minutes after repeated failed sign-ins, and every request Zippendo sends signs in. While it is locked, GLS Canada refuses even the correct password.

* When you change your GLS Canada password, update **Password** on **Edit carrier** straight away.
* When GLS Canada refuses a password, enter the correct one on **Edit carrier** and click **Save**. Zippendo uses it at once. Until you save, Zippendo waits about an hour before it tries the refused password again, so that it does not lock your login.

## After you connect

The carrier appears on **My carriers** with a **Connected** badge and a **Beta** badge. You choose the product on each shipment or in a shipping rule. See [Carrier products and services](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/carrier-products-and-services.md).

| Product | Use it for |
| - | - |
| **Parcel** | Ground delivery between addresses in Canada. |
| **GLS Express** | Next-business-day air delivery across Canada, from a sender address in Ontario or Quebec. Every parcel needs its length, width and height. |

A parcel takes at most 150 lb, and a shipment at most 99 parcels. Both products ship within Canada only.

### Services

Both products list the same services. Choose them on the shipment or in a shipping rule.

| Service | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Residential delivery** | Delivery to a home address. Without it, GLS Canada treats the address as a business. |
| **Residential delivery with signature** | Delivery to a home address, signed for. |
| **No signature required** | A business delivery GLS Canada may leave without a signature. |
| **Declared value** | Coverage for the shipment's value. Enter the **Declared value (CAD)**, up to 5,000 CAD. |
| **Hold for pickup at a GLS terminal** | The receiver collects the parcel at a GLS Canada terminal. |
| **Weekend delivery** | Delivery on a weekend. |
| **Non-conveyable parcel** | A parcel too large or irregular for GLS Canada's conveyors. |
| **Trade show delivery** | Delivery to a trade show. |

**Residential delivery** and **Residential delivery with signature** cannot be combined, and neither can be combined with **No signature required**. Zippendo stops the shipment before it reaches GLS Canada. Your GLS Canada contract decides which services you can use.

Two optional fields are on both products: **Package type** (**Box**, or **Envelope** for documents) and **Note for the driver**, up to 255 characters.

### Labels and tracking

* GLS Canada returns the shipment's labels as one PDF. The shipment's **Documents** tab keeps it. If the label did not come back when you sent, use **Fetch label** on the shipment.
* Every parcel of a shipment carries the shipment's GLS Canada tracking number. Zippendo fetches tracking updates from GLS Canada about once an hour. There is nothing to set up. See [Carrier tracking webhooks](https://www.zippendo.com/docs/how-to/tracking-webhooks.md).
* GLS Canada is not available under **Pickups**. Arrange collection with GLS Canada directly.
* GLS Canada has no service point product.

## Change or remove the connection

To change it, open **Carriers** → **My carriers** and click **Edit carrier** on the card. **Carrier settings** holds **Username**, **Password**, **Billing account number** and **Test mode**. Click **Save**. You see "Carrier updated".

To remove it, click **Delete** on the same page, type the carrier name in capital letters, and click **Delete**. Shipping rules that use this carrier are deleted with it. Shipments you already sent keep their labels and tracking numbers.

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| "Couldn't connect the carrier. Try again." | Check that every required field has a value, then try again. |
| "The carrier rejected your login details. Update the carrier credentials under Carriers." when you send | GLS Canada refused the username or password, or a test login is used with **Test mode** off. See **Keep the password up to date** above. |
| "The carrier's settings are incomplete or not valid. Check them under Carriers." | The **Billing account number** is not digits only. |
| "Some options for this carrier product are missing or not valid. Check the shipment's services and options, then try again." | Zippendo checks these before it sends the shipment: **Declared value** without a **Declared value (CAD)** or above 5,000 CAD, services that contradict each other, **GLS Express** without the dimensions of every parcel, a postal code that is not Canadian, a parcel with no weight, or more than 99 parcels. The shipment shows the reason. |
| "The selected carrier product does not ship between these countries. Choose a different product." | A sender or receiver address is outside Canada, or a **GLS Express** shipment's sender address is outside Ontario and Quebec. |
| "The carrier accepted the shipment but its label couldn't be downloaded. The parcel will still be collected. Use Fetch label on the shipment to try again." | Click **Fetch label** on the shipment. |
| "The connection to the carrier was lost before it answered. Zippendo has no confirmation that the shipment was created, so check with the carrier before sending again." | GLS Canada did not confirm the shipment. Look it up in GLS Canada's online shipping before you send it again. |
