# Connect DSV Road

> Connect DSV Road under Carriers with your myDSV username and password, Customer number (MDM) and three subscription keys from developer.dsv.com, plus the optional Tracking subscription key and Test mode.

**DSV Road** sends parcels and pallets on DSV's road network across Europe, through your myDSV account and on your DSV agreement. The fields that every carrier shares are on [Carrier credentials](/docs/how-to/carrier-credentials).

DSV has three carriers in Zippendo. Pick the one your DSV agreement is for: [DSV XPress](/docs/how-to/connect-dsv-xpress) for express and parcels, **DSV Road** (this page) for road freight in myDSV, and [DSV Road (DB Schenker)](/docs/how-to/connect-dsv-schenker) for the former DB Schenker road network.

<Info>
You do not pick a sender address on this form. Add your addresses under the organization menu → **Manage** → **Addresses**. You choose the sender address on each shipment or in a [shipping rule](/docs/how-to/shipping-rule-fields). DSV Road ships between addresses in the EU, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway.
</Info>

## Before you start

* A myDSV login that DSV has enabled for API access, and your 10-digit DSV customer number (MDM). Ask your DSV contact to enable the login.
* An account on [developer.dsv.com](https://developer.dsv.com) with subscriptions to **Fetch DSV Access token**, **Booking** and **Labels**, plus **Tracking** if you want your shipments tracked. Each subscription has its own primary key on your **Profile** page there.
* A written note to your DSV contact that Zippendo sends DSV Road shipments on your behalf. DSV's terms ask for it before you send.
* For **Test mode**: the demo login, the test customer number and the demo keys from DSV's demo sign-up email.

You can connect DSV Road more than once. Give each connection its own **Carrier name**. **Learn more** on the card opens DSV's page about road transport.

## Fields on the form

| Field | Required | Description in the form | What to enter |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Carrier name** | Yes | | The name you see on **My carriers** and when you pick a carrier on a shipment. It starts as **DSV Road**. |
| **Brand** | No | Only this brand can use this carrier. | Shown only if your organization has [brands](/docs/how-to/create-a-brand). Leave it empty to let every brand use it. |
| **myDSV username** | Yes | The myDSV login DSV enabled for API access (usually an email address). | Your myDSV login, once DSV has enabled it. |
| **myDSV password** | Yes | The password of that myDSV login. | Your myDSV password. |
| **Customer number (MDM)** | Yes | Your 10-digit DSV customer number. DSV's demo sign-up email contains a test number. | The customer number on your DSV agreement, digits only. |
| **Access token subscription key** | Yes | Primary key of your subscription on developer.dsv.com (Profile page) to "Fetch DSV Access token". | The primary key from your **Profile** page on developer.dsv.com. |
| **Booking subscription key** | Yes | Primary key of your subscription on developer.dsv.com (Profile page) to "Booking". | The primary key from the same page. |
| **Labels subscription key** | Yes | Primary key of your subscription on developer.dsv.com (Profile page) to "Labels". | The primary key from the same page. |
| **Tracking subscription key** | No | Primary key of your subscription on developer.dsv.com (Profile page) to "Tracking". Shipments are not tracked without it. | The primary key from the same page, if you subscribed to tracking. |
| **Road product code** | No | The Road product code in your DSV agreement, if DSV gave you one. | Ask your DSV contact. |
| **myDSV template** | No | A booking template DSV set up for you in myDSV, if any. | Ask your DSV contact. |
| **Test mode** | No | Use DSV's demo environment. Requires the demo login and keys from DSV's sign-up email. | A checkbox, off until you tick it. Leave it off for real shipments. |

**Connect** does nothing until **Carrier name** and the six required DSV fields have a value.

**Test mode** sends your shipments to DSV's demo environment instead of the real one. The demo login and keys only work with **Test mode** on, and your live login and keys only with it off. Leave it off for real orders. See [Test mode](/docs/how-to/sandbox-mode).

## After you connect

The carrier appears on **My carriers** with a **Connected** badge. You choose the product on each shipment or in a shipping rule, not on this form. See [Carrier products and services](/docs/how-to/carrier-products-and-services). A product or service that is not on your DSV agreement is refused when you send, and the shipment shows DSV's reason.

| Product | Use it for | **Package type** choices |
| - | - | - |
| **DSV Road Parcel** | Parcels by road within Europe | **Colli (CLL)** (the default), **Carton or box (CTN)**, **Package (PKG)**, **Bag (BAG)** |
| **DSV Road Pallet** | Pallets by road within Europe, with pallet exchange if you want it | **Euro pallet, 120 x 80 cm (EUR)** (the default), **Pallet, 120 x 80 cm (PLL)**, **Half pallet, 80 x 60 cm (HPL)**, **Quarter pallet, 60 x 40 cm (QPL)**, **Pallet, 120 x 100 cm (IPL)**, **Pallet, other size (PLT)** |

Every parcel needs a weight, a length and a width. The EUR, PLL, HPL, QPL and IPL pallets need no size. DSV charges whole kilograms, so a 2.3 kg parcel is sent to DSV as 3 kg. Keep each street address and its second line within 72 characters together.

DSV Road has no return product in Zippendo. Send returns with another carrier.

### Services and extra details

Choose services on the shipment or in a shipping rule.

| Service | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Delivery notice by email** | DSV emails the receiver before delivery. Needs the receiver's email address. |
| **Curbside delivery to a private address** | DSV delivers to the curb at a private address. Needs the receiver's email address or phone number. |
| **Tail lift at delivery** / **Tail lift at pickup** | DSV sends a truck with a tail lift. |
| **Insurance** | DSV insures the goods. Fill in **Insured value**. |
| **Cash on delivery** | DSV collects the **Cash-on-delivery amount** from the receiver. Offered in some countries only. |
| **Pallet exchange (EUR)** | **DSV Road Pallet** only: DSV exchanges EUR pallets at delivery. |

Under **Extra details for the carrier** you also find **Label format** (**PDF** or **ZPL (thermal)** for a label printer), **Package type**, and **Currency** for the insured value and the cash-on-delivery amount.

### Customs

A shipment that leaves or enters the EU (to or from the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Norway) needs both **Export customs clearance** and **Import customs clearance**. The choices are **Not required**, **By DSV**, **By a third party** and **By yourself**. Neither has a default, because DSV may charge for clearance it does.

Your EORI number comes from [Organization settings](/docs/how-to/organization-settings), or from the brand when it has its own customs identifiers. To send a commercial or proforma invoice with the shipment, turn on **Generate commercial invoice** or **Generate proforma invoice** under **Document generation** in the shipping rule. See [Customs and documents](/docs/how-to/customs-and-documents).

### Pickups and tracking

* DSV Road is not available under **Pickups**. DSV collects every shipment as part of the shipment itself. See [Schedule a pickup](/docs/how-to/schedule-a-pickup) for the carriers that are.
* The **Pickup details** section does not appear for DSV Road products, so you cannot set a pickup window on a shipment you create in Zippendo. A shipment created through the [Zippendo API](/docs/api-reference/overview) with pickup details is collected in that window. Otherwise Zippendo asks DSV to collect between 09:00 and 17:00: the same day when you send before 15:00 on a weekday, or else the next weekday.
* Zippendo cannot cancel a DSV Road shipment. Contact DSV with the tracking number.
* When **Tracking subscription key** is filled in, Zippendo fetches tracking updates from DSV about once an hour, and they appear on the shipment's **Tracking** tab. There is nothing else to set up. Without the key, no tracking events appear. See [Carrier tracking webhooks](/docs/how-to/tracking-webhooks).
* The tracking number is the number DSV gives the shipment in myDSV, and the **Tracking link** opens DSV's public tracking page.

## Change or remove the connection

To change it, open **Carriers** → **My carriers** and click **Edit carrier** on the card. The **Edit carrier** page has two sections:

* **General**: **Carrier name**, and **Brand** if your organization has brands.
* **Carrier settings**: the same DSV Road fields as on the connect form, including **Test mode**.

Click **Save**. You see "Carrier updated".

To remove it, click **Delete** on the same page, type the carrier name in capital letters, and click **Delete**. Shipping rules that use this carrier are deleted with it. Shipments you already sent keep their labels and tracking numbers.

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| "Couldn't connect the carrier. Try again." | Check the required fields, then try again. |
| "You've reached your plan's limit. Upgrade your plan or remove something you no longer use." or "You're over your plan's limits. Upgrade your plan or remove what you no longer use." | Your plan's carrier limit is reached. See [Billing and usage](/docs/how-to/billing-and-usage). |
| "The carrier rejected your login details. Update the carrier credentials under Carriers." when you send | The myDSV login is wrong or DSV has not enabled it, a subscription key is wrong, or your login and keys do not match **Test mode**. Fix it on **Edit carrier**. After DSV refuses a myDSV login, Zippendo waits 15 minutes before it tries that login again, so a wrong password does not lock your myDSV account. A corrected password is used on the next shipment straight away. |
| "The carrier's settings are incomplete or not valid. Check them under Carriers." | **Customer number (MDM)** contains something other than digits. Fix it on **Edit carrier**. |
| "Some options for this carrier product are missing or not valid. Check the shipment's services and options, then try again." on a return shipment | DSV Road has no return product in Zippendo. Send the return with another carrier. |
| "Some options for this carrier product are missing or not valid. Check the shipment's services and options, then try again." on a shipment leaving or entering the EU | **Export customs clearance** or **Import customs clearance** is missing. The shipment shows which one. Choose both under **Extra details for the carrier**. |
| "DSV Road couldn't create the shipment." | DSV refused the shipment. The shipment shows DSV's reason, for example a parcel without its size, a delivery notice without the receiver's email address, or an address that is too long for DSV. Fix it and send again. |
| "The selected carrier product does not ship between these countries. Choose a different product." | DSV Road ships within the EU, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway. Choose another carrier for other countries. |
| "The connection to the carrier was lost before it answered. Zippendo has no confirmation that the shipment was created, so check with the carrier before sending again." | Check myDSV first. Send the shipment again only if DSV has no shipment for it. |
| "The carrier did not respond. Try again in a moment." | DSV did not answer before the shipment was created. Send it again. |
| "The carrier accepted the shipment but its label couldn't be downloaded. The parcel will still be collected. Use Fetch label on the shipment to try again." | Click **Fetch label** on the shipment. Do not send the shipment again. |
| "We can't reach the carriers right now. Try again in a moment." or "The carrier rejected this. Check the carrier's reason, correct the details and try again." | DSV or Zippendo's connection to it is down, or DSV refused the request. Try again later, or fix what DSV names. |
